Restoration Project
Externally,
Kenya Jacaranda will be restored to as near as her original form as
possible whilst making allowances for the acceptable standards and
stringent safety regulations of 21st Century.
Internally,
her accommodation will be restored to resemble a grand yacht of the
late 1930's but this will be designed with a degree of flexibility in
mind so that KJ can be easily adapted to fulfil her different
roles.
Heritage Awareness and Training
We
want to create a model for managing a community led ship
preservation projects by developing an in-house ‘heritage’
curriculum which will broadly cover all aspects of the operation of a classic ship and which will be developed in liaison with similar organisations.
We will promote
interest,
education and involvement in the practical aspects of UK maritime
history as it relates to the operation of old ships. By encouraging ongoing development of our volunteers, they will have opportunites to become
competent all rounders in support of KJ and her community project.
Skill Archive
We plan to
create a digital archive of all skills necessary to keep KJ sailing
and we are currently investigating the feasibility of forming links
with other Maritime organisations to ensure that a 'heritage skill'
and 'sea mile' network is created for the mutual benefit of
all concerned.
Beneficiaries
Anyone from the Thames-side and Medway communities who have an interest in matters maritime, regardless of ability or background.
