Ongoing Work

KJ is presently berthed in Tilbury Docks, Essex thanks to the generosity of Tilbury Containers Services .

We are currently undertaking a programme of remedial work which will stabilise KJ's condition and slow the rate of  her deterioration.  This work is undertaken at our regular Saturday working parties.

We are about to start a major fundraising drive and networking exercise and are currently in discussion with several Thames or Medway based maritime organisations with a view to setting up a cooperative effort for skills swap.  Please contact Ian Foreman (details on contacts page) if you represent a business, club or organistion and want to be amongst the founding members of this project.

Whilst our priority is to restore KJ closer to her original form, we are investigating ways to use the opportunities presented by the rebuild work to train a network supporters who will learn the specialist and traditional skills needed to ensure her continued operation well into the future.

The restoration itself will be largely carried out by volunteer labour, using traditional working methods and skills, under the tutelage of maritime professionals. Using  KJ  as a floating classroom, volunteers will train to a comprehensive in-house training syllabus (currently under development) covering every aspect of supporting historic sailing vessels.
