KJ's Future

Once the rebuild has been completed,  KJ will undertake commercial, educational and promotional activities in order to raise funds for her own maintenance, ongoing volunteer training and subsidised sailing activities for less advantaged
 young people

As far as we can ascertain, there are no other sailing vessels of KJ's size and calibre which are managed by a purely community-led organization.

It is hoped that our innovative approach to managing old ships and the skills necessary to keep them going will be used as a ‘reference’ work for anyone considering a major restoration project involving the ongoing operation of old ships.

We hope to achieve this by using KJ as a floating museum and exhibition with a public programme specifically designed to spread the word to as many people as possible.  The advantage of an operating vessel is that she can go to the community rather than the community having to come to her.
